Skeletal structure of a movement-

In simplest outward term, the controlling elements in an animated movement are extremes and inbetweens.

Extremes are the skeletal structure, a framework that defines the path of a movement. (A path includes direction of travel, distance and arc for all the joints and compartments within a structure to unfold).

Inbetweens is the time-clock an extreme takes, to travel from one to another; its texture of velocity is linked to the spatial arrangements of the inbetweens (timing chart).

Our workflow to animating is the way we each decide to approach the arrangement of extremes and inbetweens.

The texture of an animated movement is really affected by the way extremes is being arrange within a scene, in orderly forward manner, or jumping back and forth, in relation to the spatial gap between extremes.

This motion texture resulting from a particular workflow is much more noticeable to hand-drawn than in CG, because in CG, one can option to readily preview a movement in real time while striking extremes, adjusting positioning as needed; unfortunately not so easily for hand-drawn (since speed is control by amount of drawings).

Thank you for take time and share yours thoughts, its pretty nice!

Hello Miro…glad you’ve found the posts of interest :)

Yong Seok Jeon

Helpful posting! it reminds me your lecture :)
I’m doing my own short flim now. i’m doing my best but it’s hard to make good animation. i’ll show you the work soon :)

Thanks Yong Seok :)

Great to hear that you’re making a short film! i’m sure it is going to be good…because i know that you have what it takes to be successful :D

Would it be asking too much to have a break down of these frames? There is so much motion and I am extremely new to animation. I wanted to see what the mass above his head is when he is going downward. Also his hand seems to get wider at the arc and I wanted to see what it looked like. Thanks.

Fortunately the hand draw animation is so much expressive and free that the CG animation, and it hides a secret action, that goes being revealed slowly, while the animator use his hands and energy to fight and to play with the line and the other elements of work. This has a delicious flavor, that not have the click on the mouse.

Hello Jacob,

Will do on next post. All my best wishes to your animation endeavor :)

Hello Ignacio,

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts! :)
